| Will Aid: Make a difference by making your Will this November |
Whitehead Vizard are pleased to be taking part in the Will Aid scheme -
a partnership between local solicitors and 9 UK charities
Salisbury-based High Street Solicitors Whitehead Vizard are pleased to be taking part in the Will Aid scheme -
a partnership between local solicitors and 9 UK charities.
Participating Solicitors draw up a basic Will free of charge in November, which has been designated Will Aid month.
In return Whitehead Vizard hope you will donate the fee they normally charge to Will Aid.
The suggested donation is
£75 for a single Will, £110 for a pair of matching or "mirror" Wills, or £40 for a change or Codicil to an existing Will.
Donated money is shared equally between ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Help the Aged, NSPCC, Save the
Children UK, Sight Savers International, SCIAF and Trocaire.
Launched in 1988, Will Aid is a powerful force for change.
Whitehead Vizard is a partner-led firm offering a high quality, friendly service with tailor-made solutions and
specialist advice.
Using their professional skills to benefit charity is important to them.
Pat Lush said today: "A Will written by a solicitor gives certainty and peace of mind that the deceased's wishes
will be carried out after his or her death”.
Research in 2008 showed that more than 53% incorrectly believe that if someone dies without a Will, their husband or
wife or civil partner will automatically inherit all their assets.
Only 43% are aware of the fact that when someone
dies without a Will, the state distributes any assets according to an arbitrary set of rules. Only 20% realize that
marriage invalidates a Will.
60% of adults have not written their Will. 50% say they simply haven't got around to it, whilst 26% believe they are
too young and almost 23% believe they have no possessions or money to leave.
Wills can be made with a DIY document but solicitors do not advise this.
A poorly drafted or unenforceable Will can
mean that your assets are not passed on in the way you would wish. Problems can be caused for those left sorting out
your estate.
Common DIY mistakes include inadequate signature and execution of the will by the testator and by the
witnesses, failure to consider if other dependants, who may not be named as beneficiaries, may have a prior claim
on property, and improper alteration of a will, thereby making it partially or totally void.
It is particularly advisable to use a Solicitor if you live with someone who is not your spouse or civil partner,
or if a business is involved.
Dame Judi Dench, Actress and Will Aid Patron said
"Will Aid solicitors can feel justly proud of their contribution.
Their generous gift of their skills benefits many people.
"Families and communities around the world will see their lives
transformed through the work of charities. This is a truly remarkable achievement."
This is a great way to get your affairs in order and at the same time help hundreds of people in our local community.
Making a Will is important. It creates security for loved ones.
This November is the perfect time to get involved, and secure your family’s future at the same time.
