David Ridley of Whitehead Vizard Solicitors has been appointed the county's first official full-time coroner. He takes over from David Masters who has held the post since 1993. Mr Masters will continue as Assistant Deputy Coroner, focusing on military inquests.

David Ridley has been the Assistant Deputy Coroner since November 2007. He is married with two children and lives in Salisbury.

“I hope that the coronial service, under my leadership, can help bereaved families through what is undoubtedly a difficult time following the death of a loved one” he says.

David joined Whitehead Vizard Solicitors in September 1991 and is a specialist in dispute resolution, employment law and personal injury. He leaves his position as partner at the firm to start his new appointment on 1st April.

Whitehead Vizard are no strangers to the coronial service. This is the second time that the Salisbury High street firm have produced a coroner- the first being Leo Lush whose son Chris still works for the firm.

Chris Lush, partner, says "Whilst the firm is sad to be losing David after nearly eighteen years we congratulate him on his appointment to this important office and I am particularly pleased that the firm has again been able to provide the County with a Coroner, whose role is such an important public service."
