Do you know the laws of cricket?
Andrew Hodder from Whitehead Vizard Solicitors is calling for budding umpires to come forward.
“Wiltshire has a shortage of umpires and more are needed,” says Andrew.
A qualified umpire himself, Andrew says “It’s very rewarding. Training is provided by the Association of Cricket Officials (part of the ECB) and takes about 9-12 sessions to complete. You need to be able to give your time a few days a year but for that small sacrifice you gain an amazing insight into the game and a view of the action that the crowd can only dream of.
“It is a really responsible and respected position and your qualification is internationally recognised,” he adds.
Whitehead Vizard are proud of their association with cricket and are sponsoring the umpires at the forthcoming Lashings game at Winterslow CC on Sunday 30th August. “It should be an exciting match and I hope that it inspires a few spectators to make the transition from fan to official,” says Andrew. “The excitement of umpiring for top names makes it all worthwhile”.
