Professional Qualifications and Background
Matthew is a Solicitor Advocate who shares the same rights of audience as a barrister. Previously a partner with a Bournemouth firm, Matthew joined Sampson Coward with Whitehead Vizard in 2014. Matthew has an MA in Medieval History from Nottingham University and received a Distinction and was awarded the Law Society Prize for his Legal Practice Course at the College of Law (Guildford).
Matthew is a Member of the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Courts Advocates.

Experience
Matthew has a wealth of experience resolving disputes in the local county court, First Tier Tribunal and High Court. His recent experience includes:
- Acting for a developer in landlord and tenant dispute regarding major works to mixed commercial / residential units
- Advising a beneficiary in successfully resisting County Court Claim by a dependent challenging a will
- Successfully acted for respondent charity in a High Court appeal by way of case stated Ward v RSPCA [2010] EWHC 347 (Admin)
- Representing freeholder in First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) in complex enfranchisement dispute
- Securing pay off for unmarried partner in a County Court proceedings concerning shared ownership of a house following breakdown of relationship
- Recovering assets for family trust and defending allegations of breach of trust at the High Court
- Action against former employee for breach of confidence and copyright
Matthew is also frequently instructed in relation to business tenant default, contested lease renewals and commercial and residential service charge disputes.
